Have You Rested / Amphetamine alternative
An Amphetamine alternative for presence-aware display sleep
Amphetamine is great when you want to keep your Mac awake. Have You Rested solves a different problem: the screen should stay on while you are actually looking, and turn off when you look away or leave. It also includes 20-20-20 breaks for eye strain.
How it compares
| Need | Amphetamine style apps | Have You Rested |
|---|---|---|
| Keep Mac awake | Yes, based on manual/session rules | Yes, while presence features keep the display behavior controlled |
| Turn display off when you look away | Not the main purpose | Pro can do this based on local camera presence |
| Sleep when you leave | Usually based on timers or rules | Pro can react to absence |
| Eye health reminders | No | 20-20-20 breaks and blink/posture nudges |
When to choose Have You Rested
- You want the display to follow whether you are actually there.
- You want to stop jiggling the mouse just to keep a screen awake.
- You want display sleep and 20-20-20 eye breaks in one native Mac menu bar app.
Privacy model
Presence detection runs locally using Apple Vision. No video is recorded, no screenshots are taken, and frames are processed and discarded. If you do not want continuous camera use, Privacy Mode keeps the camera off during normal work.
