Keep your Mac awake for you, not for an empty chair
If you keep moving the mouse just to finish reading, Have You Rested Pro offers a different kind of keep-awake control. It uses on-device camera detection to keep the display on while you look and turn it off after you look away.
Display control is a Pro feature · 5-day trial, no card · macOS 13+, Apple silicon
Amphetamine is for sessions. This is for presence.
Amphetamine can keep your Mac awake for a task, an app, or a set of trigger conditions. That's useful when work must continue without you. Have You Rested is for a different situation: you want the display awake while you're there and allowed to rest when you're not.
| Decision | Amphetamine | Have You Rested |
|---|---|---|
| What controls wakefulness? | Manual sessions and triggers such as running apps or connected devices | Your detected presence and looking state, in Pro Full Mode |
| Work while you're away | Designed to keep the Mac awake for a session | Can let the Mac sleep after your configured absence delay |
| Camera | Session controls do not require camera detection | Required for presence-based display control |
| Price | Free | Free break reminders; display control requires Pro |

Reading a long document without touching the mouse?
This is where presence detection makes sense. With Full Mode enabled, Have You Rested uses the camera while you work. Looking at the screen keeps the display on. Turning away starts your selected screen-off or privacy-cover delay. Leaving can start a separate delay before full system sleep.
Detection runs on your Mac, and frames are discarded rather than recorded or uploaded. The green camera light stays on while the camera is in use. If you want no continuous camera use, this display-control feature is not the right fit; you can still use the free break reminders.
Can it wake my Mac when I come back?
It can restore a dark display when detection is still running and the Mac is awake. It cannot use the camera to wake a Mac from full system sleep. After full sleep, tap a key or the trackpad. Your macOS password requirement still applies.
Keep Amphetamine for unattended work
If you need an overnight render or download to keep running after you leave, a keep-awake session is a better match. Have You Rested is not a replacement for every Amphetamine trigger or its closed-lid features. Avoid letting two utilities make conflicting sleep decisions while you test.
The 5-day Pro trial includes presence-based display control. Afterwards, Pro is $29.99 once, $19.99 per year, or $2.99 per month for up to 2 Macs. Basic eye-break, blink, and posture reminders stay free. See the plans.
