A Time Out alternative for when you watch the break tick down

A break can finish while you're still staring at the screen. Have You Rested Pro can pause that countdown when you look back. If that's the part your routine is missing, it's worth trying alongside the scheduling approach you already know.

Time Out or Have You Rested?

Time Out is a strong choice for configurable break routines. It supports normal and micro breaks, additional break types, themes, and actions around each break. Have You Rested puts more emphasis on whether you look away and what the display should do when you leave.

Don't switch just to get another schedule

If you've built a routine around Time Out's custom break types, themes, or scripts, it may be the better fit. Have You Rested does not import those settings. The useful question is whether a timer alone gets you to stop looking at the screen.

With Pro verification, looking back pauses the overlay countdown. Camera processing stays on your Mac. It estimates presence and whether you're looking, not the health of your eyes or your exact viewing distance.

What if I don't want continuous camera use?

Set up breaks without a camera

Choose Privacy Mode. In Pro, the camera can turn on during a verified overlay break without monitoring the rest of your workday. Denying camera access still leaves timed reminders available. Free reminders do not use the camera.

Full Mode is for people who also want the display to stay on while they read and turn off when they look away. Looking back can restore a dark display only while the Mac itself remains awake; after full system sleep, use a key or the trackpad. More on display sleep.

Start with one working session

Pause Time Out, install Have You Rested, and try the default 20-20-20 routine. See whether the verified break changes what you do before replacing a setup you already like.

You get 5 days of Pro without a card. The free eye-break, blink, and posture reminders continue afterwards. Pro costs $29.99 once, $19.99 per year, or $2.99 per month for up to 2 Macs. Compare Free and Pro.
