A Mac eye break reminder built around the 20-20-20 rule
Have You Rested is a native Mac menu bar app for people who know they should take eye breaks, but keep dismissing reminders. The free tier gives you timed 20-20-20 breaks plus blink and posture nudges. Pro adds optional camera verification, focus stats, and display sleep automation.
Who it is for
- Developers, designers, writers, and students who spend long stretches at a Mac.
- People who get eye strain, neck tension, or back pain from ignoring breaks.
- Mac users who want a break timer without cloud accounts or remote camera processing.
What makes it different
Most break timers can only remind you. Have You Rested can optionally check that you looked away during the break, so the reminder is harder to ignore. In Full Mode, the same local presence signal can keep your display on while you are looking and turn it off when you look away.
Privacy model
Detection runs locally using Apple Vision. No video is recorded, no screenshots are taken, and camera frames are processed in memory and discarded. The Mac app contacts have-you-rested.rolia.ee for license checks and optional Sparkle update checks.
Pricing
Free includes 20-20-20 breaks, timer-based blink and posture nudges, and Privacy Mode. Pro starts with a 5-day trial, no card required. Lifetime is $29.99 for up to 2 Macs; annual is $19.99/year; monthly is $2.99/month.
